The Vision
VISION AND MISSION OVERVIEW
Maintaining Truth as one’s first love, and guarding against getting sidetracked by less demanding yet all too consuming distractions, is a life long task that requires partnership and ongoing, grace-fed inspiration. It is all too easy to doze off in life, to allow weeks and months and years to pass by, in flurried stealth, while losing hold, or even sight of, the bedrock of our very existence. The founders of 3 Days Café & Books are striving to maintain a state of life-long pilgrimage, and would like to help other seekers do so as well. And for those who have “grown up” out of seeking, we wish to reintroduce them to the childlike wonder of existence; and beyond encouraging a love of knowledge itself, to foster the ancient skill of asking real questions, to cultivate a state of mind open to real answers, and to encourage the essential ingredient which makes this possible - humility. Wonder is a virtue elusive to the modern mind, which makes honest dialogue and an authentic exchange of ideas a lost art, and elevated excellence in service of truth a rare commodity. Because of this, spaces are needed in the maelstrom and cacophony of modern life where remembrance of man’s potential and intrinsic dignity may be rekindled, remembrance of the very soul within each person aching to attain to the full image designed by the Creator. 3 Days envisions providing an oasis from the false dividedness of mind and spirit, reason and faith, that modern man is accustomed to, and plagued by - and to do so in good taste, and with impeccable style.
3 Days hopes to carry forward this mission by making available both the resources and the environment supportive of the claim that Truth does exist, that the relativity of space and time does not pertain to all dimensions of human existence.
Pope John Paul II, in his call for a new evangelization, encouraged lay Catholics to utilize their wits, talents, and experience within the world to labor in the fields of post-modernity. And as Mother Theresa often remarked upon, the spiritual poverty of the West is a festering wound amidst material plenty that has yet to be adequately ministered unto. The harvest is immense, but the laborers are few.
St. Irenaeus once said, “Whatever is true, is ours.” This is the adopted motto of 3 Days Café & Books. 3 Days sees itself as being truly Catholic - that is, universal. Our mission can neither be pigeonholed as ‘Christian’, in the sense of providing a place simply for already professing Christians, nor will it hide the fact that its mission is formed and guided by the ancient Traditions and timeless Magisterium of the Catholic Church. And yet it aims at providing an eminently welcoming oasis of Truth and Beauty, wherever gathered, capable of being sought, recognized and embraced by the many, who not having encountered as yet their fullest embodiment, nonetheless hunger for guidance, and satiety.
